Deano: Rest will do Quins good
Harlequins director of rugby Dean Richards has assured fans a weekend off will not derail his side's push for a Guinness Premiership play-off spot.
Quins made it five wins from their past six games with a 28-15 triumph at Bristol on Sunday to move them within a bonus-point victory of league leaders Bath.
Due to the Heineken Cup, Richards's men will have a break after Saturday's clash with struggling Newcastle Falcons at the Stoop.
But the former England number eight is confident the rest will help rather than hinder Quins' chances of a top-four finish.
"I think it is important we have a weekend off because we have played some tough games recently," he said.
"We have fielded a similar sort of side almost all the way through the past six games because of injuries and the size of our squad.
"We have the momentum at the moment, but I am confident the break won't affect us and we will prepare for the London Irish match in much the same way we have over the past few months."
Second-half tries from Mike Brown, Gary Botha and George Robson - after a 40-yard interception - added to Charlie Amesbury's early score to secure the spoils in the West Country.
The match marked the return to action of centre Jordan Turner-Hall from injury and England U20s duty, and Richards believes the win is testament to his ever-improving band of youngsters.
"There is a confidence among the younger players and they are maturing with every game they play," he added.
"The fact we won it in the second half shows we have a good level of fitness and the patience to stick to our game plan."
Winger David Strettle is likely to be held back from action until next month's clash at the Madejski Stadium, to ensure he is fully recovered from a foot injury he picked up in the Six Nations.
