Major rail disruptions over Easter
Train services are to be cut over Easter
Train services are to be cut over Easter

Travellers trying to get away over Easter are advised to avoid Clapham Junction, with major track work closing the line to Wimbledon.

Network Rail have scheduled £3million of work over the four-day long weekend, including replacing mainline tracks.

South West Trains' Nick Dorey said the lines from Clapham to Waterloo and Wimbledon will be closed while engineers work round the clock.

"We are sorry for any disruption caused to passengers during this period but rest assured we will do everything in our power to get our passengers to their destinations," Mr Dorey said.

"We strongly advise passengers to check their journey details before traveling."

Mainline services will be diverted between Woking and Clapham Junction, a reduced service will operate on most mainline routes to and from London Waterloo on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

On Sunday, trains will run from Wimbledon to London Waterloo via East Putney every 10 minutes.

Other services will terminate at Wimbledon or Surbiton and there will be reduced services on the Richmond, Twickenham, and Hounslow lines.

Network Rail route director David Pape said: "We have been working hard to plan and prepare for this project, which will lead to a more reliable railway and a better service for passengers.

"Clapham Junction is a vital and busy part of the network and while this means that more passengers will experience these benefits, we would also advise people to check their plans prior to travelling."

For more information about services, go to www.southwesttrains.co.uk or phone National Rail Enquiries on 0845 748 4950.

“On Sunday, trains will run from Wimbledon to London Waterloo via East Putney every 10 minutes.“

Is that right? to start with East Putney is a tube station, I've never seen a SWT service there ever. Also, trains from Wimbledon don't go to any putney station, they go to earlsfield, vauxhall and clapham jct. trains from putney go down several routes, but i don;t think anyone's ever gone from putney to wimbledon on a train???

I seem to remember they did this before during emergency engineering works. The train goes off on a long loop along the tube line, so it does go through East Putney and the like.

Nowhere on National Rail's website does it say that there is no service to Earlsfield from Waterloo... in fact the planner gives you te train times! Same old usless National Rail...
