A credit union boss will be pounding the streets of Kingston wearing her bridal gown – after forgetting the event coincided with her first wedding anniversary.

Michelle Boundy, chief executive of Surrey Save, agreed to take part in the Garman Run Kingston Challenge on October 13 before realising the date marked a year since she tied the knot with husband Francis.

But rather than cancel, she’ll mark a year since her special day by running eight miles in the dress she got married in 12 months ago.

Michelle, who will be running to raise money for the Love Kingston appeal, said: “What actually happened is I thought what an excellent way to raise awareness of Love Kingston and SurreySave, and signed up on the spot.

“I emailed my man to check if were we doing anything on the 13th and his response was: “No, only our first wedding anniversary.” - Oops.

“So I decided to run in my wedding dress. He’ll come along and meet me at the end.”

Half of all money raised through Love Kingston goes to five charities – Kingston Foodbank, Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness, women’s refuge Hestia, credit union Kingston Savers and youth charity Oxygen.

The other half goes to the Kingston Legacy Fund, which distributes cash to other Kingston-based good causes and receives match-funding from the Government.

Surrey Comet assistant editor David Lindsell will also take part on behalf of Love Kingston.

The charity has more places to fill. Email elaine@londoncf.org.uk to take part.
