Personal Overview - A narrow winner at the General Election of 1997 who vastly improved his position at subsequent outings. He has quickly become a Liberal Democrat Spokesman, with experience as an economic advisor and management consultant, having made several speeches on tax and finance issues. In recent years he has been set fair for continued promotion within Liberal Democrat ranks. Within the party he has also been Chairman of it's Campaigns and Communications Committee which is responsible for preparing the party for the next general election. Was ordered in February 2008 to leave the Commons Chamber after he protested to the Deputy Speaker over the decision not to grant a debate on the Liberal Democrat proposal for a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union.
Political History - Chairman of the Liberal Democrat Manifesto Costings Group, member of the Federal Policy Committee, former leader of the Liberal Democrat London Group. Characteristics - Appears economically inclined. The local distaste for Conservative politics in June 2001 in his constituency led to tactical voting which swelled his majority to stratospheric proportions, although his majority did fall back in 2005. Despite the majority he will need to display continuing care in tending to constituency matters if he is not to eventually face defeat at Tory hands. Is notable for being awarded by the Royal Humane Society for saving a woman who had fallen onto the train tracks at a London train station in 1994. Supports Notts County FC and Kingstonian FC.
