Mother at signing for book inspired by daughter's battle with diabetes

A mother who wrote a book inspired by her daughter’s battle with diabetes will be signing copies of her first children's book this month.

Trisha Bridger, 40, wrote Why Can't I Fly? inspired by her nine-year-old daughter Niamh’s struggle with Type 1 diabetes.

She said: “I published Why can’t I Fly? to help Niamh through a difficult time with her diabetes, and although it’s not a story about the condition, it has become a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Diabetes UK.

“For each book sold £1 will go to the charity.”

Richard Lane, Diabetes UK president, said: “Diabetes UK is thrilled to support Trisha with her book - an emotional story of self discovery and problem solving.

“It is beautifully written with delightful illustrations and a joy to read.”

British ice dancer Jayne Torvill added: "It is a delightful and inspiring story that I loved reading with my children.

“It has an important message to never give up and always reach for your dreams".

Mrs Bridger, author and illustrator, will be at Waterstone’s book shop in The Ashley Centre in Epsom, from 11 to 3pm on Saturday, December 3.
