The sounds of jazz will get feet tapping in Kingston this month with a two day celebration in the town centre.

The Streets, part of the London Jazz Festival, will see local and internationally renowned musicians performing in shops, cafes, churches, public spaces and anywhere else in the town centre where they can squeeze in a little show on Friday, November  20, and Saturday, November 21.

Here’s five things to look forward to…

  • Smitty’s Big four will play their upbeat New Orleans swing in unexpected locations including the High Street and train station throughout Friday.
  • You’re never too young for Jazz. Tuba player Oren Marshall will take his Jazz for Toddlers workshop from 11am at Kingston Library and 2pm at the Caterpillar Café in the Bentalls Centre on Friday.
  • Local band Eddy Smith and the 507 will play pop, soul and funk classics at Pizza Express in the High Street on Friday afternoon.
  • South African a cappella sensation The Soul will perform live in John Lewis and the Bentall Centre on Saturday.
  • Serious Sing at the United Reform Church at 10.30am on Saturday is a workshop led by Ranjana Ghatak, who specialises in blending sacred Indian vocals and improvised rhythms of contemporary music.
