The sound of jazz, funk and soul will light up crowds at Sandown Park this weekend as the Brand New Heavies take to the stage.

The acid jazz legends perform as part of the Betfred race day and will entertain the crowds following an afternoon of racing.

With their name giving homage to the godfather of soul, James Brown, the Heavies promise to wow the crowds much like they have since starting on the club circuit in the late 1980s.

Since their birth, the band have experimented with many styles and in 1990, the band began using a style which emphasised the instrumental rather than the vocal elements of their music.

The band released their debut album in 1992 and released their first studio album for seven years in 2013.
