Christmas music conducted by an acclaimed international musician is being performed at a historic Epsom church.

Piers Maxim, who has worked with top singers in Europe and America, will be leading the Epsom Chamber Choir at St Martin’s Church on Saturday, December 8.

The concert includes Benjamin Britten’s ‘A Boy was Born’ and the chance for the audience to sing carols accompanied by the organ.

Mr Maxim said: ‘For many, Christmas isn’t complete without a serving of carols and other seasonal music.

"Our concert will combine the beautiful candlelit surrounds of this elegant church with fine choral sounds as good as any you can hear over the season."

The Epsom Chamber Choir, one of the top choirs in the South East, appeared on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Sunday Worship’ programme this year.

Mr Maxim has worked with singers at opera houses and in concert halls across Europe, the USA and beyond.

He took up his post with the choir in September.

He is also a talented composer who created a work for the millennium eve service performed for the Queen at Southwark Cathedral.
