South east London actor Tom Sturridge is the handsome and reckless army Sergeant attempting to woo Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan in this newly-released trailer for Far From the Madding Crowd.
An adaptation of the 19th century Thomas Hardy classic, it is directed by another Oscar nominee, Thomas Vinterberg.
It is the story of an independent woman, Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan) who attracts three very different suitors: honest and loving sheepfarmer Gabriel (Mattias Schoenaerts), Sturridge’s Frank Troy and rich bachelor William Boldwood (Michael Sheen).
Sturridge, 29, was born in Lambeth and best known for his roles in Richard Curtis’s The Boat That Rocked and the Allen Ginsberg role, Carlo Marx, in On the Road.
The screenplay was written by David Nicholls, who wrote the novels One Day and Starter For Ten, and it was filmed on location in Hardy’s Wessex as well as London.
Far From the Madding Crowd is out May 1.
