A slice of the big apple has come to Wandsworth in the form of a new American diner.

The Ed's Easy Diner franchise has branches in Soho, Euston and Mayfair, so opening south of the river is a new venture for the business.

Ed's does stand out amongst the other restaurants in the shopping centre food hall. Vibrant red booths, an open plan kitchen and jukeboxes clearly establish it as an American diner.

When I arrive I'm greeted by the friendly manager, Edyta, who has been working at various branches of Ed's for 10 years. She's happy to give recommendations as she hands me the menu.

Ed's is the perfect place to really indulge. Burgers, hotdogs and chilli are all on offer to make you ditch the diet.

I decide to go for a Blues Burger (£6.45), a huge beefburger smothered in blue cheese served in a bap, deemed as Ed’s favourite on the menu. This burger is not for the faint hearted. I devour it within minutes with the gooey cheese dripping everywhere, really delicious. My guest opts for a classic chicken burger, with chunky pieces of griddled chicken and is topped with lettuce.

There are many different types of chips which have their very own section from the menu. Diners can chose wet fries (gravy covered), cheesy and even bacon and cheese fries. We decide to share a bowl of sweet potato fries (£3.95) and atomic American onion rings (£4.95),which comes with guacamole, sour cream, chilli, cheese sauce and jalapeno jelly dips. It's great fun to share and get really messy, while the jalapeno jam  is very addictive.

Ed's are famous for their milkshakes, which come served in big metal jugs engraved with the Ed's logo. They are a good deal getting at least two drinks per serving for £3.95 or £4.25 for a premium.

We share a butterscotch milkshake (£3.95) as well as a warm chocolate brownie (£4.35) with ice cream. A delicious combination, but I start to regret wearing my unforgiving skinny jeans.

Ed's is a great boost for Southside and will hopefully become something of an attraction. It's the perfect place to wind down after shopping or tied into a cinema trip.
