Hold onto your waistlines - the man who helped to make baking fashionable is coming to Croydon, and he's bringing enough food to feed Fairfield Halls.

"There will be cake, there will be pastries, there will be pies, there will be breads," said Paul Hollywood, unflinching judge on BBC's The Great British Bake-Off.

"I'm going to try to get as interactive with the public as I can, get the them onto the stage so they can learn baking with me.

"There will be four people picked from the audience who will sit down with me at the end of it and eat everything that we've baked."

Silver-haired and ever-tanned Paul, along with sidekick Mary Berry and comedy duo Mel and Sue, attracted millions of viewers each week to watch amateur bakers fight it out to be crowned king or queen of the kitchen.

Off the back of the success of the programme's fourth series, the Merseyside-born 47-year-old is now taking his stage show on tour.

Get Your Bake On will see Paul give kitchen demonstrations and dish out top tips and secrets to help novice and seasoned bakers hone their skills.

He said: "I think people remember more when they're actually there and I can show them what they should look for. I'll answer as many questions as I can about baking, recipes and Bake-off and just give me a chance to meet these people and have a giggle and a good night."

Paul, who learned his trade in his dad's bakery before working for a string of top hotels, was taken aback by the success of the BBC series.

He said: "I was hugely surprised. You don't expect to get that many people, we were all very honoured to be associated with it. It has been incredible, real fun working at it. We just didn't realise how big it was going to get."

And his mouthwatering description of his perfect meal is sure to get even those new to the show reaching for their knives and forks. He said: "Sausage roll, a great big pork pie, a very simple victoria sandwich with cream as well as jam. I'd make a great loaf and start off with that with some cheese and pates. The whole thing for me is to keep it simple, because that's what people want to eat."
