Foodies who hate wasting ingredients can enjoy new recipes from like minded people across the county by using a new Facebook app.
Love Food Surrey was created by Surrey County Council as part of its campaign to reduce the amount of food which is thrown away each year in the county, currently 75,000 tonnes.
Recipes can be uploaded by anyone and will help other cooks to make the most of their leftover food and come up with new ideas.
Among the ideas, leftover chicken and vegetables from a roast dinner can be turned into soups and ripe bananas can be used in cakes and other teatime treats.
John Furey, cabinet member for transport, highways and environment, said: “Our first Facebook app is an innovative way to encourage Surrey residents to reduce their food waste and save money at the same time.
“With so many people regularly using social media, our new app will help Surrey residents to share how they are already reducing the amount of food they throw away.”
To coincide with the launch, the owner of the most popular recipe will win prizes from food and drink companies across the borough, including Anila’s Indian Sauces in Walton.
