It seems far-fetched now but flamingos’ tongues, snails fattened on milk and roast dormice were once considered the height of good taste.
A woman playing a Roman cook is set to introduce these former delicacies, which used to tickle the palates of the Romans, to children at a museum kids' club.
She will demonstrate her skills in the kitchen and there will be an opportunity for youngsters to make their own Roman delicacy at Bourne Hall in Ewell.
The cook will also explain that away from the Roman banquets and fine dining, normal fare for poor Romans was soup, vegetables and course bread.
Bourne Hall Museum Kids’ Club is suitable for children aged eight and over.
