Keen bakers with a knead to display their culinary skills can do so in a bake-off, as part of the 2014 Elmbridge Food Festival.

There are five categories to enter into; fruit cake, novelty cake, sponge cake, cupcake/muffin and local produce. Those that enter local produce must use an ingredient produced within the Elmbridge area.

The competition will be judged by the mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Barry Fairbank, who said: "How do you turn down an offer to judge a bake-off?"

After the mayor has announced the winners, the entries, unless marked otherwise, will be sold in aid of the mayor's charity, Home-Start Elmbridge.

Coun Fairbank said: "I am particularly excited about what offerings we will be presented in the local produce category. Autumn is such a wonderful time of year for our producers and this is also what this event is about, showcasing the diverse food and drink available throughout our region."

Bakers of all ages are invited to enter the competition and drop their entries to the bake-off marquee between 10.30am and 11am on Saturday, September 27, and the winner will be announced at noon, alongside the official opening of the festival.
