Kokomo and Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash are among the big names to be confirmed for the Richmond Fine Food and Real Ale Festival (Fab) this summer.

British soul pioneers Kokomo are reuniting with eight original members from the band’s beginnings in 1973 for the August event.

Their 1975 self-titled debut LP is still considered a funk classic among collectors and their reputation as frontrunners of British soul remains intact.

Also on the bill of the three-day festival, is Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash, with original bassist Turner leading the legendary prog-rockers’ revival.

He says: “The band and I are delighted to be headlining the opening night of this exciting new Richmond event.”

The line-up also includes soul singer Jo Harman, blues band The Mustangs, Goldie Reed, The Others and Robin Bibi.

Mike Rivers, from the Crawdaddy Club, says: “When the Crawdaddy Club was asked by Fab Festivals to be involved with the inaugural Richmond Fine Food and Real Ale Festival I jumped at the opportunity.

“Richmond has an amazing musical history from the early 60s when the Crawdaddy Club was at the forefront of the British R’n’B revolution headed by the Rolling Stones and it is an honour to continue that heritage by providing more than 20, mostly local, bands on two stages for 10 hours a day over the period of this exciting new event.

“Great food, great beer and great music - what is there not to like?”

The festival is a food festival with a host of local food producers, exhibitors, demonstrations and tasting workshops.

It is also a beer festival showcasing 100 real ales and 50 ciders and perries.
