This festive season Kew Gardens will open its gates after dark and present an enchanted landscape full of light, sound and colour.

During the Christmas period, visitors can embark on an illuminated trail as they enjoy Kew’s scenery lit up with coloured lights.

The trail is designed to highlight the magic of the arboretum and Kew’s wintry landscape. Visitors can also explore a boutique Christmas Village with traditional stalls, festive music, treats and vintage rides.

Kew’s head of events Adam Farrar says: “This year we are offering visitors the unique opportunity to wrap up warm and wander through Kew’s arboretum after hours.

“You may have seen Kew in glorious summer bloom, but you have never seen it glow in the winter dark.

“An exquisite illuminated trail will provide a magical Christmas experience and a completely different way to see the Kew landscape.”

The one-mile illuminated trail winds its way through the world famous Botanical Gardens, casting light into hidden places, under tree-top canopies , past lakeside reflections and into a mesmerising garden of fire.

The creative light show brings to life some of Kew’s best known landmarks including its glasshouses, the lake and the Waterlilly House, which has seen a giant illuminated lotus flower installed.

The illuminated trail features artist commissions, immersive soundscapes and the latest in creative technology, and includes playful opportunities to interact with the lights and the landscape.

The lighting display, which takes its inspiration from Kew’s landscape and history, was put together by Culture Creative.

Illuminated Trail at Kew Gardens; Thursday to Sunday November 28 to December 23, every day December 26 to January 4; 4.45pm; Adults £12.50, Children £8.00, Family £37.50.
