Putting pen to paper, residents of a Weybridge retirement community have been busy creating works of art for a special gallery.

Artwork created by residents at Sunrise Senior Living in Ellesmere Road is being displayed on a walk-in gallery within their community in celebration of their hard work.

Art classes are regularly held at the retirement community and many of the paintings and drawings have been created by people who have dementia and use art as a form of therapy.

Sunrise resident Jo Ryeland, 82, said: “When I arrived at Sunrise of Weybridge I joined the art group. I had not had time to paint for many years so this was a great opportunity to get back into art.

“This activity gives us purpose and allows us to contribute to the greater community.”

Marcus Le Brocq, director of community relations at Sunrise of Weybridge, said staff were very proud of the efforts residents had put in.

The gallery launched on Saturday, September 21, and will be at the community until September 28.
