Courtney Love has revealed she turned down a proposition from Russell Brand because she finds the hairy comedian too "musky".

The 49-year-old singer appeared on Alan Carr's Chatty Man along with Lily Allen and Masterchef presenters John Torode and Gregg Wallace, and discussed dating at nearly 50.

Scruffy Russell may have a reputation as a ladies' man, but Courtney told Alan he didn't do it or her.

She revealed: "My favourite Russell Brand line when we first were friends and he tried to hit on me, and nothing ever happened. You know, I'm female. He goes 'I've had a lot of grand conservations darling but none of them have ever ended in an orgasm. Can we go in your room?'

"He's got some good lines. And I said to Russell, 'you're too musky for me man'."

The grunge star revealed she is currently reading the complete works of Charles Dickens to impress a man she is dating.

She said: " I'm trying to be one of those people who finishes all of Dickens. I'm trying to impress a guy. Because he's read all of Dickens."

But great works of English literature aside, Courtney also confessed she is a huge fan of trash TV, and would love to see a British version of US reality show The Real Housewives set in Birmingham.

Courtney admitted: "I'm a big trashy British TV fan. I love c**p British TV. I love Towie, Made in Chelsea, stuff like that. I don't like c**p American TV but I love c**p British TV. I live for it.

"Amy Childs, that was the first one I was interested in. She's just so 'hi' ... I'm not knocking her, we have the Kardashians and you have Towie.

"The Housewives really drive me nuts. I'd love to see the Housewives of Birmingham or something. That would be great. Or the housewives of Liverpool. The good Wags. Get them with their nails out!"

Chatty Man airs on Channel 4 tonight (May 9) at 10pm.
