A Japanese restaurant chain, founded in Denmark, is to open its first UK branch in Wimbledon.
On March 14, Danish chain Sticks’n’Sushi will open its first restaurant outside Copenhagen, in Wimbledon Hill Road.
Brothers Jens and Kim Rahbek and Thor Andersen took inspiration from their half-Japanese, half-Danish background to create the first restaurant 18 years ago.
A spokesman said: "They created a unique cuisine that combines two culinary traditions – Sushi and Yakitori from the charcoal grill.
"This made Sticks’n’Sushi a dynamic and innovative force on the Danish restaurant scene and they are considered one of the most respected brands in Denmark, with customers ranging from trend-setters to families."
The spokesman said the London menu would offer the same choice as in Copenhagen including options for those less keen on fish, including chicken, pork, beef, lamb and vegetable yakitori skewers.
The Wimbledon Hill Road venue is a former Coach House where horse-drawn carriages were made and some original features on the main brick wall will be retained, alongside a homage to the carriages in the sharing tables which have been designed with locked wheels and leather features.
