A diverse group of Richmond and Twickenham artists have been brought together for Convergent Diversity, an exhibition at the Stables Gallery at Orleans House.
More than forty artists will be presenting their work in this fourth annual exhibition at the Twickenham venue organised by Network, the local arts magazine. In keeping with the Convergent Diversity title, there will be a variety of art on display including ceramics, photography, textiles and sculpture.
Paintings and drawings in a variety of media will also be on show at the exhibtion, which runs until October 24, and all works will be for sale.
One of the exhibition’s organisers, Linda Walsh, says: “We have got more than 70 exhibitors this year and the idea is that we are a diverse group of artists converging on the Stables Gallery. We’ve got a mixed group, so we include everyone from professionals to those who create art in their spare time. We are Richmond’s answer to the Royal Academy!”
Walsh, a Thames Ditton resident, will be exhibiting examples of her textile hangings, inspired by her trips to China and Vietnam, and she will have her own show at The Fountain Gallery, in East Molesey, opening in October.
Elsewhere at Orleans House, selections have been made for the Making It/Faking It exhibtion in the main gallery. More than 1,100 copies, homages and pastiches were entered into the open exhibition with a selection panel of 10 judges spending eight hours whittling these submissions down to 80.
Work inspired by artists such as Damien Hirst and Gainsborough will be included in the show which opens in the Orleans House Gallery on October 2. The exhibition explores how and why contemporary artists approach famous artworks - the perceived masterpieces of art history.
