A car has smashed into a Sainsbury’s Local shop in Chessington this morning.

It is believed a Ford and a black Astra crashed into one another causing one to slam into the North Parade shop at about 9.30am.

James Trott, of Derek Avenue, Epsom, who saw the aftermath of the crash, said: “I heard a noise but I didn’t see it actually happen.

“There was quite a hoohah around there. It was quite busy in the shop so it’s quite lucky no one was killed.”

Surbiton and New Malden firefighters attended.

London Ambulance and Kingston police both attended to reports of a car going into a building but there was no need for medical treatment.

Joe Lammin, who works in the Martin's newsagent next door, said: "It is a bit scary - I was working next door and my whole counter shook."

Im trying to understand how this would even be possible? there is highish kerb stones and always parked cars there? To get that angle from the road at speed would be quite tricky! and to get that far in the shop is prestty amazing? Did the brakes fail?

How was this possible? Because people drive much, much too fast. Even in situations where there are likely to be children, pedestrians, cyclists, reversing vehicles etc etc etc. And they don't care about the consequences.

The Comet has reported on a bike shop (Tolworth/ Surbiton), a nail bar (Surbiton), a hairdressers (Kingston) and now a supermarket being hit. The common factor has been stupid speed. People need to slow down.

Apparently from eyewitnesses It was an elderly lady that hit a parked car then panicked and slammed on the accelerator ,spun round at high speed and took the red car behind her
