Wild Beasts invade Kingston: Cumbrian four-piece at New Slang

Surrey Comet: Wild Beasts at New Slang Wild Beasts at New Slang

Mercury Prize-nominated Cumbria four-piece Wild Beasts will be making their Kingston debut in support of their new album next week.

The experimental Kendal group will bring their haunting and infectious sound to Banquet Records’ New Slang night at McClusky’s on Thursday, ahead of the release of fourth studio album Past Tense.

The group - Hayden Thorpe (vocals, guitar, bass, keys) Ben Little (guitar, keys) Tom Fleming (bass, vocals, guitar, keys) and Chris Talbot (drums, vocals) – released their critically acclaimed debut Limbo, Panto in 2008.

But it was the release of follow up Two Dancers that brought the band to a wider audience.

With ethereal yet melodic tracks such as Hooting & Howling and We Still Got The Taste Dancin’ On Our Tongues, the album was nominated for the 2010 Mercury Prize – losing out to the xx.

Nevertheless, the album established Wild Beasts as one of Britain’s most exciting and innovative bands, confirmed by the release of third album Smother in 2011.

Banquet Records manager Jon Tolley said: “New Slang is very excited to welcome Wild Beasts for the first time.

“Their breed of excellent electro-ambient alt-pop and unique vocals makes them one of modern British music's most innovative bands and resulted in a Mercury Prize nomination.

“If you're into bands like Warpaint, Everything Everything, Alt-J and Tall Ships then this is very much for you.

“One not to miss out on as they'll be heading out on tour after this, playing huge venues like Brixton Academy, so grab a copy of the album and ticket combo now.”

As usual, the night carries on long after the bands stop, with DJs playing indie classics until 2am.

Wild Beasts, McClusky’s, Thames Street, Kingston, Thursday, February 27, 9pm, £10 (includes CD). banquetrecords.com
